CR Things to do 

FREE Elk Falls Suspension Bridge: Hangs 64mtrs above the Campbell River canyon floor offering a top to bottom view of Elk Falls. Located 4km’s along Gold River Hwy 28, turn onto Brewster Lake Rd. Park in John Hart Interpretive centre parking Lot.  1.4kms walk to the falls. Wheelchair access.

FREE Discovery Fishing Pier: Stunning location for mountain & ocean views! Bring your binoculars, do some photography, watch the industry tug boats & barges go by, and if your lucky catch a glimpse of a whale. 655 Island Hwy. 250.914.1868.

FREE Oceanfront SeaWalk or Bike Ride: Campbell River Sea Walk- Walk, Ride, Roller Skate/blade along the 8km seawalk. Mountain & ocean views the whole way!

Museums: 

Museum at Campbell River- 470 Island Hwy. Winter open hours: Tue–Sun, 12–5pm (Oct. 1–May 17).  crmuseum.ca, 250.287.3103. Permanent Exhibition; Explore the rich cultural traditions & dramatic art forms in the First Nations gallery, then follow the changes brought about by exploration & colonization in the Transitions exhibition. See the Logging, Pioneer Cabin, Floathouse, Salmon Industry, Willows Hotel, Sportsfishing and the history of the Tyee Club. Or see historical film footage in the ‘Van Island Theatre’ including the Legendary Ripple Rock Explosion. Temporary Exhibition- “150 Years & Counting: Fighting for Justice on the Coast”- (Mar10-May6) Indigenous Peoples, Asian Canadians, and their allies have been fighting for justice on BC’s coast for the past 150yrs.  This exhibit looks at the courage of ordinary people who contributed to justice by resisting oppression and racist government policies. Also special this month is the “Ripple Rock 60th Anniversary Celebration”- Apr 5 @ Tidemark Theatre, 7-9pm. Watch the original CBC coverage of the 1958 blast, followed by the “Remembering Ripple Rock” documentary. Ripple Rock was a well-known underwater mountain within Seymour Narrows that claimed over 20 large vessels, at least 100 smaller vessels, and 114 lives before its destruction in 1958.

FREE Entry (by donation)Art Exhibition: Campbell River Art Gallery- This month’s exhibitions; “Recover All That Is Ours”- (Mar 1 - Apr 25)  Inspired by a line by Mohawk/Tuscarora poet Janet Rogers. It redefines ideas about Canada and its 500yr-old relationship with Turtle Island through de-colonial poetics, mythology, and contemporary multi-disciplinary Indigenous art practices.  Also see “Wendy Goes West”- (Mar 1 - Apr 25) By artist Walter Scott (Montreal, QC). Cartoon stories that follows Wendy, an art school party girl, and her friends as they try to ‘make it’ in the art world. FREE Find Driftwood Creations: Drifted Creations- There’s a local celebrity in town named, Alex Witcombe, whose been creating amazing designs out of washed up pieces of driftwood. After creating his artwork, he’ll leave it at a surprise location somewhere in town (usually by the seas or in a forest trail) waiting for locals & tourists to find them! Dirt Biking: 

FREE “Dirt Church”-   See calendar on Sunday’s. Group of people that get together on a Sunday and ride their dirt bikes in the forest trails up around the McIvor Lake area, off of the Gold River Hwy.  Across from the Motor Cross track.
